Kedah: Kedah Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) maintains that there is no urgent need to dissolve Parliament, as called for by Kedah UMNO Strategic Communications director Syed Mohd Johan Rizal Syed Unan Mashri.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, State Leadership Council (MPN) Communications director Tunku Nashrul Abaidah stated that the call did not arise from any pressing necessity but was instead aligned with UMNO's political interests. He emphasized that the MADANI government is operating effectively and remains stable, with UMNO being part of the government and having representatives in the Cabinet.
He further explained that if UMNO is part of the government administration, it must adhere to the principle of collective responsibility concerning decisions and the administration's conduct. Tunku Nashrul pointed out that the call contradicted the stance of the UMNO president, who recently reaffirmed UMNO's commitment to remain with the Unity Government until the end of its term.
The 15th General Election (GE15) Unity Government agreement clearly outlines cooperation for the five-year term of the 15th Parliament. Therefore, Tunku Nashrul questioned whether Kedah UMNO still respects its president's position and the party's commitment, or if it seeks to sacrifice the country's stability for political manoeuvring.
He stressed that UMNO should recognize that being in government involves responsibility towards the people and the country, not merely enjoying position and power. At a time when the public expects the government to focus on economic issues, the cost of living, and overall well-being, it is not the time for political manoeuvring or creating unnecessary uncertainty.
Tunku Nashrul reiterated that Kedah PKR believes there is no urgent need to dissolve Parliament. The mandate entrusted to them should be used to address the people's issues until the end of the term, rather than succumbing to the political interests of any party. Earlier, it was reported that Kedah UMNO's Strategic Communications director urged Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to dissolve Parliament so citizens could decide on their preferred government.
