Nurse’s Words Inspire Organ Donation Decision

Alor setar: The simple words of a nurse about the opportunity to save a life through organ donation opened the heart of a school administrative assistant, Norasmani Ahmad, 44, to make a decision that had never crossed her mind. Norasmani, the wife of the late Mohd Khairil Jamaludin, 44, said initially she was reluctant to allow her husband's organs to be donated after his death.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Norasmani shared that a nurse named Kak Ros played a pivotal role in her decision-making process. The nurse, who cared for her husband at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB), explained that although Khairil was declared brain dead, his organs could still save lives. "That sentence was very profound and impactful," Norasmani said when speaking to reporters.

Norasmani mentioned that before making a final decision, she, her son, and other family members sought further explanations from the hospital staff and an imam. These discussions helped clarify misconceptions about organ donation, including concerns about the condition of the donor's body post-procedure.

"When the ustaz explained the laws and fatwa regarding organ donation, I got a clearer picture and was relieved. My son agreed to it as well," she stated. Norasmani also recalled her husband's desire to help others, despite not having the financial means to do so himself.

The decision to donate her husband's organs was made on August 12, with the organ retrieval process occurring on August 13, coinciding with World Organ Donation Day. Mohd Khairil, an e-hailing driver, was confirmed dead at HSB on August 12, and his wife agreed to donate both of his kidneys.
