Over 20,000 Flood Victims Sheltered At Relief Centres Across Eight States

Kuala lumpur: A total of 20,146 flood victims are currently housed at 119 temporary relief centres (PPS) across eight states, with Pahang being the latest state hit by the disaster this morning. In Selangor, the number of evacuees stood at 2,697 people from 740 families at 8 am, up from 1,732 people from 474 families last night, while the number of PPS has increased to 19 from 15 over the same period.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, four new PPS have been opened in Selangor, namely Sekolah Rendah Agama Seksyen 16, Dewan Majlis Bandaraya Shah Alam Jati Kampung Sungai Kandis, Sekolah Kebangsaan Rantau Panjang, and Dewan Kemuning Utama in Klang. In Pahang, the Raub District Disaster Management Committee Secretariat reported that one PPS has been activated, sheltering 23 victims from 10 families at Balai Raya Kampung Ulu Sungai, which began operating at 11.30 pm yesterday.

The Drainage and Irrigation Department's Public Infobanjir portal noted that the water level in Kuala Mendang, Lipis, is on an upward trend, recording 85.35 meters, exceeding the danger mark of 84.5 meters, while the water level of Sungai Telemong in Bentong is receding at 98.19 meters but still above the alert level of 98.1 meters. In Kelantan, the number of flood evacuees increased to 9,959 people from 3,643 families compared to 9,882 people last night, with 40 PPS operating in four affected districts - Kota Bharu, Tumpat, Bachok, and Pasir Puteh.

In Terengganu, the number of evacuees has decreased to 97 people from 37 families, compared with 131 people from 54 families last night. JKM's InfoBencana portal stated that the victims are being accommodated at a PPS at SK Kuala Besut, Besut, while the Public Infobanjir website shows that water levels at 51 river stations across the state are at normal levels.

In Kedah, the number of flood victims continues to climb, with 1,632 people from 525 families recorded as at 8 am compared with 1,088 people from 344 families last night. The State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN), in a statement, said all evacuees from the Kubang Pasu and Kulim districts are being placed at 12 PPSs. Four rivers have exceeded the danger level, namely Sungai Laka in Kubang Pasu at 23.26 meters, Sungai Bata in Kubang Pasu at 10.76 meters, Sungai Perik in Padang Terap at 14.61 meters, and Sungai Titi Kerbau in Pendang at 4.12 meters.

In Perlis, the number of evacuees continues to rise, totalling 2,694 people from 795 families this morning compared with 2,017 people from 594 families last night. According to data from the JPBN Secretariat, the victims are being housed at 13 PPS in Padang Besar, Arau, and Kangar.

In Penang, the number of flood victims has dipped slightly to 366 people from 96 families at four PPS this morning, compared with 385 people from 103 families last night. However, overcast conditions were reported in most parts of the state this morning. The InfoBencana portal reported that SK Lahar Yooi PPS in the Seberang Perai Utara district has the highest number of evacuees, with 174 people from 50 families.

In Perak, the number of flood evacuees also increased to 2,678 people from 845 families this morning, compared with 1,786 people from 554 families last night. They are being accommodated at 29 PPS in the districts of Manjung, Perak Tengah, Larut Matang dan Selama, Hilir Perak, Bagan Datuk, and Muallim. According to the JPBN Secretariat, Manjung remains the worst-affected district, with 1,310 victims from 401 families at 13 PPS, followed by Perak Tengah, which accommodates 770 victims from 256 families at seven PPS, and Bagan Datuk with 242 victims from 82 families at three PPS. Two rivers in the state have exceeded the danger mark: Sungai Bidor in Changkat Jong, which recorded 4.59 meters, compared to its normal level of about 2 meters, and Sungai Slim in Slim River, which registered 27.82 meters, compared to the normal 23.50 meters.
