Kuala lumpur: More than 250,000 students from schools and institutions of higher learning, as well as community leaders, participated in 1,081 fire education and prevention programmes organised by the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) from October 9 to 11 across the country. JBPM director-general Datuk Seri Nor Hisham Mohamad stated that these programmes are part of ongoing efforts to promote a fire safety culture within the community.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nor Hisham mentioned that a total of 1,081 programmes have been implemented nationwide, featuring awareness and educational activities related to fire prevention. He emphasized the achievement as a sign of growing public awareness about the importance of fire safety and preventive measures. He expressed confidence that instilling a fire safety culture is the most effective way to prevent fires from occurring.
Nor Hisham highlighted that if a fire does occur, it is crucial for the community or its members to respond promptly, especially in rescuing victims. Earlier in his speech, he outlined three key pillars of fire prevention: education, culture, and enforcement. He stressed that everything begins with knowledge and the goal is to cultivate a generation and a community that not only understands fire safety but also acts instinctively when necessary.
He added that fire safety knowledge is introduced from early childhood education and continues to be disseminated throughout the wider community. Regarding the carnival, Nor Hisham noted that it serves as a platform for education and public awareness in a relaxed, community-friendly environment, aimed at reinforcing a sense of shared responsibility in preventing fires.
