Over 3,000 Sarawakians Obtain Motorcycle Licences Through MyLesen Initiative

Sarawak: More than 3,000 individuals from Sarawak's B40 low-income group have successfully obtained probationary motorcycle licences this year via a government programme aimed at enhancing mobility and safety.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, State Road Transport Department (JPJ) director Norizan Jili highlighted the success of the MyLesen initiative, which has enabled 3,708 individuals to secure Class B2 Probationary Driving Licences (PDL). A significant number of participants, 1,650, hailed from the Lanang parliamentary constituency.

During the programme's closing ceremony at SMK Sacred Heart Hall, Norizan shared plans for expanding the initiative, noting that 13,370 people benefited from it in the previous year. The event was officiated by Lanang Member of Parliament and Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Alice Lau Kiong Yieng.

Norizan emphasized that MyLesen is a part of the Transport Ministry's corporate social responsibility efforts, designed to provide low-income individuals with affordable licensing options while promoting road safety and legal awareness. The programme also aligns with the national goal of reducing road accident fatalities by equipping participants with essential traffic discipline and compliance skills.

He encouraged participants to drive responsibly, adhere to traffic laws, and support JPJ by reporting vehicles with non-compliant number plates through the MyJPJ app.
