Kuala Lumpur: UMNO President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi urged all party members, especially the youth, to continue nurturing the fighting spirit and rise together with UMNO, which will celebrate its 79th anniversary tomorrow. Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister, emphasized the importance of renewing determination and commitment to uphold the party's legacy and heritage, preparing to lead Malaysia towards a more progressive and just future.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Zahid highlighted that UMNO has endured almost eight decades of struggles. He expressed confidence that with unity and courage, the party would continue into its second century as a constructive force in Malaysian politics. He described UMNO as a platform for the people's struggles, born from nationalism, sincerity, and the bravery of natives who rejected colonialism to demand independence.
Since its inception in 1946, UMNO has been a key pillar in the formation of the Malaysian nation. Ahmad Zahid acknowledged the various challenges UMNO has faced, including division, perception, political slander, and waves of change. Despite these obstacles, he stated that UMNO has never shied away from its responsibilities and continues to be a pillar of stability in the Unity Government, advocating for an inclusive and prosperous development agenda for all Malaysians.
He noted that 79 years is a significant duration, symbolizing the maturity and strength of the party's roots. Over these years, UMNO has produced generations of leaders, developed institutions, upheld social justice, and provided hope to people in both urban and rural areas. Ahmad Zahid also expressed appreciation and extended Happy 79th Anniversary wishes to UMNO and party members at every level who remain loyal in defending the dignity of religion, race, and homeland.
