Kuala lumpur: More than 30,000 consumers have successfully applied for and received approval to increase their BUDI Diesel quota from 200 litres to 300 litres. This change is aimed at accommodating those who require higher quantities of diesel, such as small traders, hawkers, and service providers in rural areas.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan announced that the new facility was introduced in response to feedback from various sectors that need additional diesel consumption. The enhancement is one of several initiatives implemented by the government to extend the reach of BUDI Diesel, which has now been expanded nationwide. Amir Hamzah revealed the latest approval figures while speaking to the media during a review of the BUDI Diesel implementation at a petrol station.
Amir Hamzah also stated that the government permits the transfer of diesel quotas to immediate family members, addressing situations where vehicles are used by parents but registered in a child's name. As of yesterday, over 1,000 applications for quota transfers to family members have been received. In a statement from the Ministry of Finance (MOF), the Road Transport Department (RTD) will offer a fee exemption for diesel vehicle ownership transfers for three months, starting July 1, 2026, reducing fees that currently can reach up to RM100.
To facilitate these processes, RTD counters will operate on weekends from July 4 to July 31, 2026, from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm at all state RTD offices and state Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) RTD offices. MOF has also established a mechanism for transferring BUDI Diesel eligibility to family members other than the registered owner. This transfer is allowed once and is limited to one recipient, who can then use their MyKad to purchase subsidised diesel.
In related developments, the price of BUDI Diesel has been reduced from RM2.15 to RM2.10 per litre, effective today. This reduction is attributed to savings achieved from decreased diesel subsidy leakage. The BUDI Diesel rollout in Peninsular Malaysia has been smooth since its early access launch on June 27, with nearly 80,000 users benefiting from the facility. Nationwide, more than 700,000 users are expected to qualify for the programme.
Amir Hamzah emphasized that the government is committed to continuously improving the implementation of BUDI Diesel to ensure a seamless and efficient process. Diesel vehicle owners can verify their eligibility, monthly limits, and other details through the official BUDI MADANI portal at www.budimadani.gov.my.
