Kuala lumpur: More than 500 participants took part in the Golden Reunion Lantern Parade at Sunway Velocity Mall here tonight, marking it as the main highlight of the mall's Mid-Autumn celebration that brought together members of the community in a festive atmosphere.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the parade began at the Main Atrium before participants made their way to the two-acre Velo Garden while carrying colourful lanterns and enjoying a series of cultural performances along the procession. Senior Director of Marketing at Sunway Velocity Mall, Darren Chear, mentioned that this year's celebration was expected to draw a higher turnout compared to last year, with the procession adding a new element to the event.
Chear noted, "Last year we had about 200 people. But this year we expect it to be a bit more because we are bringing in something a little different, mainly because we have a procession." He elaborated that the procession included new elements this year, featuring various Malaysian cultural performances aimed at enhancing the vibrancy of the Mid-Autumn celebration.
The parade was led by LED dragon dancers, LED diabolo performers, LED fan dancers, and multiracial drummers, creating a lively atmosphere as participants travelled from the Main Atrium towards Velo Garden. In his opening address, Darren emphasized the concept of 'tuan yuan', representing reunion, completeness, and togetherness, as central to the Mid-Autumn Festival and reflective of this year's celebration spirit.
He explained, "The round shape of the mooncake represents wholeness, a reminder of the importance of coming together, sharing moments, and reconnecting with loved ones." The 'Golden Reunion', Sunway Velocity Mall's Mid-Autumn celebration, was officially launched today as part of efforts to blend traditional heritage with a modern and immersive experience for local and international visitors in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2026.
The launch ceremony featured a Multiracial Drum Symphonies performance, followed by a live showcase by Sony Music Malaysia artistes Zane Wu, Atta Rumnan, and Chloeyuz at Velo Garden. As part of its community initiative, Sunway Velocity Mall collaborated with Joymom's to support residents of Sunshine Disability Welfare Home, with proceeds from selected mooncake sales channelled directly to the welfare home to raise funds for the residents.
Running until Sept 27, Golden Reunion features more than 30 mooncake brands at the mall, alongside the Moonlit Bazaar, cultural workshops, live stage performances, and the outdoor Cultural Market at Velo Garden, offering visitors various festive activities throughout the celebration.
