Over 900,000 Consumers Embrace eCOSS App to Combat Cooking Oil Subsidy Leak

Kuala lumpur: A total of 928,037 consumers have embraced the Cooking Oil Price Stabilisation System (eCOSS) mobile application since its launch in August, as reported by Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh. The system is designed to enhance monitoring from production to the end consumer, aiming to prevent the leakage of subsidised packet cooking oil.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the eCOSS system was previously limited to monitoring from factories to wholesalers and retailers, ceasing at the retailer level. This limitation allowed some to exploit the system. The new app extension to consumer level aims to address this gap by ensuring every purchase is logged, helping to curb leakages effectively.

Dr Fuziah highlighted that the application requires consumers to scan their identity card during purchase, ensuring that the subsidised cooking oil reaches the intended beneficiaries. This measure is expected to enhance the distribution efficiency of subsidised cooking oil.

The Dewan Rakyat subsequently approved the ministry's estimated operating and development expenditure of RM2,150,713,800 under Budget 2026 through a majority voice vote.
