Over RM93 Million Allocated for Slope Repairs in Peninsular Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur: The Works Ministry (KKR) has been allocated RM93.374 million this year to undertake slope management projects across Peninsular Malaysia. Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi revealed that RM59.885 million of this allocation would be dedicated to new slope repair initiatives at 50 identified sites.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, an additional RM29.233 million is designated for ongoing projects at 29 locations, while RM4.255 million will be used to enhance early landslide warning systems, gather data, and update maps assessing slope hazard risks. This was announced at the launch of the 2025 Work Directive Handover Ceremony held at the ministry.

Minister Linggi noted that the ministry has received over 500 official requests for slope repair, with 50 locations approved for immediate intervention. "Though the number of approved applications is not large, this is part of phase one implementation," he stated, emphasizing that subsequent phases will be monitored and executed as needed.

During the event, the 2025 Work Directive for the Slope Maintenance Project on Federal Roads in Peninsular Malaysia was officially awarded to Pintas Utama Sdn Bhd. This company has been appointed as a long-term contractor to support the government in executing slope repair works per ministry guidelines.

He explained that the Slope Engineering Branch (CKC) of the Public Works Department (PWD) Malaysia is responsible for planning, managing, and overseeing slope maintenance along federal roads throughout Peninsular Malaysia.

Minister Linggi reflected on the previous year's achievements, noting that RM200.285 million allocated in 2024 facilitated repairs at 166 sites, costing RM154.345 million. Preventive measures were enacted at 20 locations, costing RM24.199 million, while RM21.74 million was invested in upgrading early landslide warning systems, data collection, and routine maintenance.

He reaffirmed KKR's commitment to enhancing infrastructure safety and public facilities, aiming to ensure that federal road networks remain safe, efficient, and comfortable for citizens, thus improving connectivity, access, and mobility across the nation.
