Pahang Government Expresses Concern Over Littering and Vandalism at LTU Rest Areas

Pahang: The Pahang state government has expressed disappointment over the actions of some road users who have been littering along the Central Spine Road (LTU) and damaging facilities at the temporary rest and service (R and R) areas. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail highlighted the issue as a significant concern during the festive season when these facilities are in high demand.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, these temporary R and R facilities were set up following complaints from travellers who faced challenges in finding suitable places to pray and use toilets due to the lack of such amenities. Wan Rosdy emphasized that government funds are essentially the people's money, and the damage caused by vandalism and littering leads to unnecessary repair costs. He urged the public to better appreciate the facilities provided and to use the waste disposal bins available at these areas.

The state government is taking steps to educate the public, particularly road users, on maintaining cleanliness and respecting public property. Wan Rosdy mentioned plans to run campaigns aimed at changing littering habits, acknowledging the difficulty some individuals face in altering their behavior. However, he expressed optimism that the problem will diminish over time with continued efforts.

In response to the increased demand during Aidilfitri, the state government allocated RM2.5 million to construct four temporary R and R stops, located in Bentong, Raub, and Lipis. These are intended to provide immediate relief and comfort to road users. The state is also considering the construction of permanent R and R stations at these locations and is open to suggestions for better sites.

Wan Rosdy also addressed concerns about traffic congestion during the festive season, expressing hope for future improvements. He noted that the completion of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) by the end of 2026, with full operation expected in early 2027, will significantly alleviate traffic issues.
