Chief Of Defence Force Visits MALBATT 850-12 In Lebanon To Review Readiness

Beirut: Chief of Defence Force Gen Datuk Mohd Nizam Jaffar conducted a working visit to Lebanon to review the readiness of MALBATT 850-12 personnel serving under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) mission.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) stated in a report that the visit, from April 2 to yesterday, provided an opportunity for personnel to learn about the latest developments within the MAF and to engage in a dialogue session with the Chief of Defence Force. This interaction aimed to boost the morale of the personnel and ensure they remain informed while serving away from home.

Defence Ministry secretary-general Datuk Lokman Hakim Ali and Joint Forces Commander Lt Gen Datuk Zahani Zainal Abidin accompanied Gen Mohd Nizam during the three-day visit. The itinerary included several courtesy calls, such as meetings with the Malaysian ambassador to Lebanon, Azri Mat Yacob, and Commander of the Lebanese Armed Forces, Gen Rodolph Haykal. These meetings were intended to strengthen diplomatic relations and acknowledge the support of the Malaysian embassy in Lebanon.

During the visit, Gen Mohd Nizam also met with MALBATT 850-12 personnel stationed at Marakah Camp, Harris Camp, and Tibnine Camp. He participated in a Hari Raya event, conducted dialogue sessions, inspected facilities, and distributed Hari Raya bags to personnel. Additionally, he received briefings on MAF operations, focusing on their responsibilities and contributions to UN peacekeeping missions.

The MAF emphasized that the visit was instrumental in fostering closer cooperation between countries, enhancing coordination in peacekeeping efforts, and demonstrating the MAF's commitment to international peace.
