Melaka:Discussions on the list of Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidates for the Melaka state election are over 95 percent complete, according to PH Communications director Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi, who also serves as the Communications Minister, announced that PH has scheduled its candidate announcement for October 24, with the venue yet to be confirmed. He mentioned this during his appearance on Bernama TV's Ruang Bicara program.
Fahmi explained that discussions regarding the candidate list start at the PH component-party level. The party contesting a particular seat can then hold talks with other parties if necessary. Ultimately, the final decision will be made by the Pakatan Harapan Presidential Council.
The candidate announcement, originally scheduled for today, was postponed to October 24 at the request of the Melaka PH leadership, not due to any permit issues with local authorities or venue problems. Fahmi noted that the decision to reschedule was made at the request of several leaders, including PH colleagues in Melaka. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also the PH chairman, is expected to attend the event on the new date.
Previously, media reports indicated the postponement of the candidate announcement and launch of the PH election machinery for the 16th Melaka state election, which had been initially scheduled for October 18. Allegations on social media suggested the change was due to difficulties obtaining a local authority permit for the event venue.
