Pakatan Harapan’s Manifesto Promises Realistic Solutions for Johor’s Cost of Living

Johor bahru: The Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition has unveiled a manifesto for the Johor state election, crafted meticulously to address the citizens' needs while ensuring each pledge is actionable and monitored for effectiveness. PH candidate for the Puteri Wangsa state seat, Dr. Maszlee Malik, emphasized that the manifesto is not just a collection of electoral promises but a set of realistic commitments that can be realized through collaboration with the federal government and relevant agencies.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr. Maszlee articulated during the Johor Polls Dialogue programme-broadcast live on Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), Astro Awani, and Sinar Harian-that the manifesto includes a monitoring mechanism. This system aims to enable public oversight of the implementation of each promise. The dialogue, hosted by Sayed Munawar Sayed Mustar, also featured Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

Dr. Maszlee, formerly the Education Minister, highlighted key offers within the manifesto. These include a state health scheme, first home assistance for Johor residents, youth development funds, affordable housing, and enhancements to the education system. These proposals were developed after gathering feedback from diverse community segments, notably workers and youth, while considering financial feasibility and intergovernmental cooperation.

Addressing the cost of living, Dr. Maszlee insisted that solutions must extend beyond short-term aid to encompass comprehensive policies that alleviate financial burdens. Proposed efforts include affordable housing, health protection, and targeted public transport assistance. He stressed the importance of continually engaging with the public to refine policies for maximum community benefit.

Moreover, Dr. Maszlee underscored the necessity of a robust partnership between the state and federal governments to efficiently implement development agendas and deliver tangible benefits to the populace. He noted the federal government's initiatives under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, such as the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), aimed at invigorating Johor's economy.

The Puteri Wangsa state seat is contested by five candidates: Dr. Maszlee Malik, Rashifa Aljunied from the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (MUDA), Teow Chia Ling (Barisan Nasional), Nicholas Paul Vincent (Parti Bersama Malaysia), and Wang Wee Siong (Independent). The Johor polls are scheduled for this Saturday, following the early voting process today.
