Penang: The Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) Penang has issued a Prohibition Notice and a stop-work order to the employer at a construction site in the Bukit Minyak Industrial Park following a fatal accident recently. Its director, Hairozie Asri, stated that preliminary investigations revealed a load of plywood being lifted by a mobile crane became dislodged and fell onto the victim, causing him to fall from a height of approximately six metres.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the foreign worker succumbed to severe injuries and passed away at Hospital Seberang Jaya on March 24. The incident, which transpired on March 19, involved the victim, an employee of a subcontractor, who was conducting roofing installation works at the roof slab level when the mishap occurred at around 10.40 am.
Hairozie emphasized that the accident highlights a significant lapse in workplace safety management. He further explained that the involved parties have been mandated to halt operations immediately until compliance with all safety requirements is achieved.
