Penang: The Penang government has submitted a list of candidates for the post of Yang Dipertua Negeri (TYT) to the Prime Minister’s Office for the consideration of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia. Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow confirmed the submission, which follows approval from the State Executive Council.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Chow noted that the current TYT’s term ends on April 30 and any extension or new appointment will be at the discretion of His Majesty. ‘If the term is not extended, a new appointment will be made in line with the State Constitution,’ he told a press conference at his office in Komtar today.
Chow urged for patience, noting that this is a matter for His Majesty and that any announcements would be made at the appropriate time. Speculation has surrounded the potential replacement for Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak, who has held the post since May 2021.
