Kangar: The Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, underscored the importance of adaptability in achieving success, highlighting that academic qualifications alone are insufficient in an increasingly borderless world. Speaking at Universiti Malaysia Perlis's (UniMAP) 20th Convocation Ceremony, he emphasized that the knowledge acquired at UniMAP should be leveraged for personal and societal advancement.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin, who is also UniMAP's Chancellor, stressed that graduates should embody the qualities of knowledgeable and disciplined Malaysians, capable of competing globally while preserving Eastern customs and values. He highlighted that progress should not come at the cost of national values, and that language, culture, and identity must be protected amidst global pursuits.
His Royal Highness further elaborated that successful graduates are those who can bridge the gap between theory and practical application, using their expertise to foster innovation and uphold human values. He stated that the essence of intellectuals with a global perspective lies in their ability to enhance universal well-being.
The Raja Muda reiterated the need for scholars who can conduct strategic thinking and influence policy and industry through impactful research. The convocation ceremony also saw his daughter, Hajah Sharifah Khatreena Nuraniah Jamalullail, being proclaimed Pro-Chancellor of UniMAP.
During the ceremony, former Minister of International Trade and Industry, Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Management. The event also recognized outstanding graduates, with Nik Nuraina Fadhilah Nik Muhammad Nasir and Syafiqah Nabihah Massuwan receiving the Royal Education Award and the Chancellor's Gold Medal Award, respectively.
The ceremony will see a total of 3,568 UniMAP graduates receiving their degrees and diplomas across eight sessions at the Dewan Tuanku Canselor, lasting until November 25.
