Medan: The Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, was awarded an Honorary Doctorate (Doctor Honoris Causa) by the University of Muhammadiyah North Sumatra (UMSU) during a ceremony held at the university. The award was presented by UMSU rector Prof Dr Agussani as part of the Honorary Doctorate and Award Conferment Ceremony from the Muhammadiyah Central Leadership.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, in addition to the academic honor, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra also received the Muhammadiyah Highest Star Award, known as the International Muhammadiyah Enduring Partner Award, from the Central Leadership of Muhammadiyah. This was presented by the General Chairman of the Central Leadership of Muhammadiyah, Prof Dr H. Haedar Nashir, in recognition of his contributions to education, da'wah, community cooperation, and international brotherhood.
In his acceptance speech, His Royal Highness expressed deep appreciation for the awards, emphasizing that they were not solely personal achievements but also a testament to collective efforts in education, da'wah, and community service. He highlighted the role of various institutions in Perlis, such as the Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UNIMAP), Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin (UniSIRAJ), and others, in promoting education and human development.
The event was attended by notable figures including the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Hajah Dr Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil, Perlis Chief Minister Mohd Shukri Ramli, and FCoEE chairman Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr Kamarudin Hussin.
Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra also congratulated UMSU on its recognition as the world's best Islamic university according to 4ICU UniRank 2025, encouraging the institution to continue its pursuit of excellence. He reiterated the importance of education in shaping civilization and the role of universities in cultivating knowledgeable and virtuous generations.
The awards ceremony was a part of the three-day FCoEE-MAIPs Knowledge Expedition agenda in Medan.
