PKR National Congress Debate Session Highlights Leadership Changes and Strategic Discussions

Kuala Lumpur: The 2024/2025 Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) National Congress, inaugurated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, progressed with a vibrant debate session on the president's keynote address. This session took place at the Persada International Convention Centre and featured 16 debaters from state delegations, the Youth wing (Angkatan Muda Keadilan - AMK), and the Wanita wing.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the debate centered on crucial topics including long-term strategies for building a pluralistic Malaysia, the role of party members in restructuring PKR's strength, and state-level initiatives as evidence of the party's governing capabilities. Delegates also addressed issues such as subsidies, wages, the cost of living, the Sabah State Election, Islam in national administration, and the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

Following the debates, permanent chairman Datuk Ahmad Kassim will declare the dissolution of the 2022-2025 Central Leadership Council (MPP), paving the way for the election of the permanent chairman and deputy permanent chairman for the 2025-2028 term. The announcement of the new leadership will be made by Central Election Committee (JPP) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, after which the newly elected MPP will assume their roles.

In recent election results, Anwar Ibrahim secured the president's position unopposed, while Nurul Izzah Anwar was elected as the new deputy president. The vice-president positions were retained by incumbents Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, and Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Chang Lih Kang. Deputy Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan was a new addition to the vice-presidents, replacing Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

Other new MPP members include Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim, and Ampang Division head Syed Ahmad Syed Abdul Rahman (Altimet). Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim, political secretary to the Finance Minister, claimed the Youth wing chief post uncontested, while Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek retained her position as Wanita chief.

The leadership election featured 251 candidates across the Central Leadership Council, Youth Leadership Council, and Wanita Leadership Council. The National Congress concludes today with a session led by the newly-elected party leadership.
