Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today announced an allocation of RM2 million to the Sepak Takraw Federation of Malaysia (PSM) to strengthen the management of the Malaysian Sepak Takraw Academy Complex, here. Anwar, who is also the Minister of Finance, stated that the allocation is intended to support the welfare of players undergoing training at the complex.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of ensuring the well-being of the academy's players by providing funds for their food, comfort, and attire. Additionally, the allocation will support the association's travel needs and the overall management of the academy. Anwar made these remarks during the opening ceremony of the complex, which was attended by several notable figures, including Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh, Olympic Council of Malaysia president Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria, and PSM president Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan.
The complex, situated at Jalan Raja Muda Abdul Aziz, Kampung Baru, is valued at RM6 million. It offers a range of facilities under one roof, including athlete accommodation, a gymnasium, study rooms, and training grounds.
Meanwhile, Anwar revealed that the Youth and Sports Ministry has sanctioned an additional RM1 million to assist PSM in organizing the 2026 Sepak Takraw World Cup, set to be held at the Titiwangsa Stadium next month. The tournament will feature competitions in both the Premier and Division 1 categories, scheduled to run from May 16 to 23.
