Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has extended an invitation to Indian historian Rajmohan Gandhi, the grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, to visit Malaysia in the first quarter of next year. The purpose of the visit is to deliver a lecture and share insights on democracy, peace, and harmony.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the invitation was extended during a telephone conversation between Anwar and Rajmohan. The Prime Minister highlighted their previous interaction at a 2012 conference on democracy in Asia, organized by Rajmohan in Mumbai. Anwar expressed his eagerness to host Rajmohan, allowing him to share his views with scholars, university students, and community leaders in Malaysia.

The conversation also touched on the potential for strengthening historical and civilisational ties between Malaysia and India. Anwar emphasized the importance of academic, intellectual, and inter-civilisational cooperation in fostering a deeper connection between the two nations. He expressed his hope for the continued growth of this long-standing friendship.
