PM Anwar Warns Against State, Race, Religious Sentiments Amid Growing Security Threats

Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed concern over the growing use of state, racial and religious sentiments, warning that such divisions could threaten national harmony and security if left unchecked. He stressed that Malaysians should avoid being distracted by outdated political polemics and divisive identity-based narratives, as the nation faces more complex security challenges, including technological and digital threats.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar emphasized the need for a shift in focus during parliamentary debates, urging leaders to prioritize addressing the bigger threats over dwelling on issues of race, religion, and regional sentiments. He shared these views while officiating the National Security Month 2026 programme, organized by the National Security Council (MKN). The event was attended by key figures including Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, and National Security director-general Datuk Raja Nurshirwan Zainal Abidin.

Anwar, who also serves as Finance Minister, called on leaders across government departments, agencies, and ministries to adopt a proactive approach to address the increasingly complex security threats. He underscored that this responsibility requires moving beyond routine bureaucracy, urging leaders to quickly understand emerging technologies and new security challenges to ensure national safety and security.
