Kuala Lumpur: Police have completed recording the statement of former Rembau Member of Parliament Khairy Jamaluddin regarding an additional document that allegedly permits former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to serve his remaining prison sentence under house arrest, confirmed Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Khairy, who previously served as the health minister, provided his statement this evening at Keluar Sekejap Studio in Bukit Damansara. The statement was recorded by officers from the Classified Crime Investigation Unit (USJT) of the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department.
IGP Razarudin mentioned, via WhatsApp, that the recording of Khairy’s statement has been concluded and the investigation papers are expected to be finalized within seven days. The process, observed by Bernama, saw three police officers arriving at the location at 4.40 pm, followed by Khairy 17 minutes later. The statement recording lasted 45 minutes, with Khairy leaving the location by 6 pm.
In a brief interaction with reporters, Khairy expressed his cooperation with the police regarding the investigation linked to the police reports filed against him. He conveyed gratitude to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the media, confirming the completion of his statement.
The investigation stems from police reports lodged last Friday by Datuk Suraya Yaacob, political secretary to the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform), and Nor Azrina Surip, political secretary to the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories). The reports, filed in Putrajaya and Sentul, respectively, accused Khairy of making untrue and slanderous statements linking the two ministers, which allegedly misled the public and caused unrest, posing a potential threat to national security.
