Positive US Response to Malaysia’s Tariff Engagements: Amir Hamzah

Kuala lumpur: The United States (US) has responded positively to Malaysia's approach and engagements on tariff issues and proposals, stated Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan. He emphasized Malaysia's proactive engagement with the US to comprehend the issues involved and collaborate on finding a mutually beneficial solution. Trade teams from both countries have initiated discussions to explore ways to move forward.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Amir Hamzah highlighted Malaysia's non-retaliatory stance, expressing a desire to collaborate with the US to enhance trade relations for mutual benefit. He pointed out that the trade deficit between the two nations includes significant components from the electronics and semiconductor sectors. The minister acknowledged the US's decision to suspend tariffs for the semiconductor industry, recognizing its importance as a critical asset.

Amir Hamzah further explained that the discussions underscored the interdependence between Malaysia and the US. He stressed that Malaysia conveyed to the US the complexities of global supply chains, which are intricately linked and challenging to separate without facing substantial repercussions.
