Putrajaya: Putrajaya Corporation (PPj) president Datuk Fadlun Mak Ujud has been appointed as Kuala Lumpur Mayor effective tomorrow, as announced by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Zaliha stated that Fadlun's appointment, at age 58, to replace Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif, has received the consent of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, in line with Subsection 4(2) of the Federal Capital Act 1960. Fadlun brings with him a wealth of experience, holding a Bachelor's Degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and over 28 years of expertise in urban planning, regional development, and city management.
Dr Zaliha highlighted Fadlun's notable tenure as PPj President since 2022, during which he played a pivotal role in enhancing the implementation of the Putrajaya Smart City Blueprint 2025, the Putrajaya Green Transformation Plan, and urban well-being initiatives focusing on inclusivity and sustainability. His contributions as a member of the Board of Town Planners and a Fellow of the Malaysian Institute of Planners, alongside his involvement in international forums, underscore his capabilities as a forward-thinking urban planner.
Expressing her confidence in Fadlun's ability to lead Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) with integrity and efficiency, Dr Zaliha emphasized his expected role in advancing the CHASE City agenda, aiming to position Kuala Lumpur as a competitive, liveable global capital rooted in MADANI values.
Dr Zaliha also acknowledged the significant contributions of outgoing Mayor Maimunah, who enhanced Kuala Lumpur's international standing during her tenure. She extended her congratulations to Maimunah on her new role as a PETRONAS property adviser, expressing confidence in her continued impact on the country's strategic development.
In a related announcement, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar confirmed that Maimunah will conclude her service as Kuala Lumpur Mayor today and assume her new responsibilities with Petronas on November 17.
