Penang: Dr. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al-Nuaimi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue (DICID), affirmed that the State of Qatar, under its wise leadership, believes that peace is the rational and moral choice, and that constructive dialogue is the way to ensure a more cooperative and peaceful future among peoples.
According to Union of OIC News Agencies, this statement was made during a speech delivered by His Excellency at the opening of the International Interfaith Peace Conference 2025, hosted by the Malaysian state of Penang. The conference, which lasts for two days, is held under the theme "Cultural and Religious Pluralism: A Path to Peace and Harmony in a Turbulent World."
His Excellency began his speech by addressing the Israeli aggression against Qatar, which he described as brutal and terrorist. He noted Qatar's continuous efforts to achieve peace and stability in the region through mediation and dialogue, and stressed that these efforts will persist despite the challenges and obstacles faced.
He further emphasized that peace is a collective moral and humanitarian responsibility, urging the conference to serve as a catalyst for real transformations, practical partnerships, and global efforts to build a future based on coexistence, tolerance, and harmony.
The International Interfaith Peace Conference is organized by the Alliance of Islamic NGOs in Malaysia, in cooperation with the Penang State Government, and in partnership with the Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue. It is attended by over 200 participants, including government officials, religious leaders, academics, and civil society representatives from various countries around the world.
Dr. Al-Nuaimi highlighted that the partnership in organizing this conference aligns with the center's objectives to promote dialogue and understanding among followers of different religions. He pointed out the center's significant presence in many countries globally, including both Western and Arab nations.
He elaborated that the center's presence in Malaysia and East Asian countries is a natural extension of Qatar's efforts in dialogue and peacebuilding, allowing the center to address new challenges.
The conference aims to promote peace and harmony in a turbulent world by facilitating the exchange of experiences and initiatives between religious leaders and youth. It seeks to promote coexistence and mutual respect, and to support cooperation networks between civil society institutions and their international counterparts.
Dr. Al-Nuaimi remarked that Malaysia's experience in unity and peace serves as an ideal example, given its multi-ethnic and multi-religious composition, making it a suitable platform for interfaith dialogue.
