Prime Minister Anwar Urges Schoolchildren to Maintain Cleanliness in Schools

Cyberjaya: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today emphasized the need for schoolchildren to take responsibility for maintaining cleanliness in schools, including the cleaning of toilets, as a means to instil discipline and mitigate perceptions of class divisions.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar underscored that all students, regardless of their socioeconomic backgrounds, should learn to respect various forms of work and recognize that maintaining cleanliness is a collective duty. He shared that during a recent school event, he inquired if teachers had begun encouraging students to clean school premises, including toilets. While many affirmed, Anwar noted that some parents expressed objections on social media.

Anwar further advised that children, irrespective of their upbringing, should understand their shared responsibilities. "We use the toilets, so we clean them," he stated, following Friday prayers at Surau Bomba Cyberjaya.

The Prime Minister also appealed to parents to support these initiatives, highlighting the importance of teaching children to appreciate all types of work without associating them with social class. "I do not think this is complicated. I ask parents to cooperate and train their children to value all work. It should not be seen as a cleaner's job, as that reinforces class divisions in society," he added.
