Prime Minister to Present Budget 2027 Focused on Economic Growth and Fiscal Discipline

Kuala Lumpur:Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, also serving as Finance Minister, is set to present Budget 2027 in the Dewan Rakyat today at 3.30 pm, which is earlier than the typical 4 pm schedule.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, this 5th MADANI Budget, themed 'Malaysia MADANI Menggapai di Langit, Mengakar di Bumi', marks the second Budget under the 13th Malaysia Plan. It aims to maintain economic growth while enhancing living standards and governance.

The economy is on a solid footing, with a projected growth rate of 6.0 percent in the second quarter of 2026. The full-year growth is anticipated to be within the government's forecast of 4.0 to 5.0 percent. In this context, fiscal policy will support economic growth and strengthen fiscal resilience amid external uncertainties and elevated energy costs.

Efforts will continue to improve public spending efficiency, strengthen revenue mobilization, and reduce leakages as part of the government's fiscal consolidation agenda. Subsidy rationalization will ensure public resources are effectively targeted and productive.

Development expenditure will focus on projects that enhance connectivity and productivity, addressing infrastructure gaps, including water, flood mitigation, and electricity networks, especially in Sabah and Sarawak.

Budget 2027 will emphasize higher-value economic activities, promoting industries that generate high productivity, quality employment, and technology transfer. Investment in digitalization, AI, and advanced manufacturing will be crucial for Malaysia's competitiveness.

For businesses, particularly SMEs and MSMEs, measures to enhance productivity, technology adoption, and access to financing will be vital. Strengthening the domestic business ecosystem will ensure economic expansion benefits the wider economy.

Ultimately, Budget 2027 will focus on translating fiscal resources into sustainable growth and productive investment while maintaining sustainable public finances, thus laying a strong foundation for future growth under the MADANI Economy framework.
