Public Urged to Prepare for Imminent Northeast Monsoon

Kuala lumpur: The public is reminded to make early preparations and remain vigilant in facing the Northeast Monsoon (MTL), following a continuous rain warning expected to persist until Dec 8 in several states.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil stated that the Cabinet was informed this morning that the number of flood victims at temporary relief centres (PPS) had decreased to 3,147 people, and four PPS had been closed, leaving 49 still operational.

In preparation for the MTL, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof provided a briefing on the National Disaster Management Agency's (NADMA) readiness, emphasizing the need to enhance preparedness measures. The public is encouraged to stay informed and plan appropriately for the MTL, especially in the coming days.

Fahmi, who serves as the MADANI Government spokesman, mentioned that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim intends to contact Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto later today. The discussion will focus on possible assistance Malaysia can extend to Indonesia, along with conveying condolences to the families affected by the floods and landslide in Sumatra.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department issued a continuous rain warning at the alert level on Wednesday. This warning is expected to impact several states in Peninsular Malaysia, as well as Sarawak and Sabah, from Dec 5 to 8.
