Public Urged to Report Media Ethics Complaints to Malaysian Media Council

Shah Alam:Members of the public who have concerns about local media reporting ethics are encouraged to direct their complaints to the Malaysian Media Council (MMM), as stated by Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil. He emphasized the importance of using proper channels to address grievances to maintain the integrity and credibility of the media industry.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi suggested that any issues with media reporting should be raised through the MMM's official complaints channel, which provides a link for public access.

This statement was made following the MADANI Kita Programme with the Kota Anggerik community in Shah Alam. It comes in the wake of the Putrajaya Media Club lodging reports with the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) about a social media post. The post allegedly altered images of media personnel, depicting them as animals, during their coverage of former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's visit to his late wife's grave at Pusara Negara, Putrajaya.

Fahmi elaborated that the MCMC had identified several social media accounts responsible for disseminating offensive content. These accounts reportedly misused AI applications to edit images of Tun Dr Mahathir during the period following Tun Dr Siti Hasmah's passing. Authorities are investigating the matter, and Fahmi noted that one suspected account has disappeared. The MCMC and police are working to track down those responsible.

He also reminded media members to respect the family's wishes during their time of mourning and expressed hopes for strength for Tun Dr Mahathir and his family as they cope with this difficult time.
