Putra Heights Fire: Airbnb Offers 78 Temporary Homes For Victims – Amirudin

Subang Jaya: Homestay management company Airbnb has agreed to offer 78 units as temporary accommodation for a period of two months for victims affected by the Putra Heights gas pipeline fire in Subang Jaya. Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari announced this initiative, which supplements the 100 temporary accommodation houses already offered by the Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the LPHS houses are part of the Selangor SMART Sewa scheme, and the state government will cover the rental expenses. During a press conference at the Selangor State Secretariat Building, Amirudin confirmed this support for the affected residents.

The LPHS has designated 100 houses in Kota Warisan, Sepang for temporary accommodation, with additional locations to be announced soon. In an effort to manage the aftermath of the fire, Amirudin also revealed that water diversion works from Taman Putra Harmoni would commence tomorrow. This is necessary as the current water flow is directed towards the explosion site, leading to water stagnation despite ongoing efforts to pump it out.

The water diversion is crucial to stabilise the soil structure in the affected area before further measures are taken to complete the investigation process. Amirudin urged residents not to be alarmed by the upcoming activities, as they are essential to prevent water accumulation in the crater, which is a discharge point for monsoon drains from Taman Putra Permai.

The fire and explosion at Putra Heights occurred at 8.10 am on Tuesday and required almost eight hours to be fully extinguished. The incident resulted in the formation of a crater 9.8 meters deep, covering an area of approximately 21x24 meters at the site.
