PWD Urged To Intensify Use Of Modern Technology In Mega Projects

Kuala lumpur: The Public Works Department (PWD) has been urged to intensify the use of modern technologies, including Building Information Modelling (BIM) and digital twinning, in the implementation of major projects such as the Pan Borneo Highway and rural road construction. Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi emphasized the importance of leveraging these technologies to ensure the quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness of project implementations.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nanta highlighted that employing advanced technology is no longer optional but a necessity. He urged the Sarawak Public Works Department and all relevant agencies to collaborate closely with the Ministry of Works to roll out a pilot project in Kapit. His remarks were made during the 2025 Ngiling Tikai Gawai Dayak event, which was inaugurated by Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas. The event was also attended by Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Native Law and Custom II) Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat and Sarawak PWD Director Cassidy Morris.

As the Kapit Member of Parliament, Nanta stressed that infrastructure projects should be executed in an integrated and inclusive manner, engaging all stakeholders, including local authorities, communities, and contractors. He urged all parties involved to cooperate, prevent project delays, and swiftly address any technical issues that may arise.

The Works Ministry, he assured, is committed to expanding both federal and state road networks while ensuring that maintenance work is efficiently executed to deliver a significant impact. Nanta also pledged that funds would be managed transparently and comprehensively to benefit rural communities in the long term, particularly in Kapit and Sarawak.
