Real Estate Agent Loses Over RM750,000 In Online Gambling Scam

Kuala lumpur: A real estate agent lost RM759,950 after falling victim to an online gambling investment scam. Penang Police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail stated that the 64-year-old woman claimed to have received a WhatsApp message in mid-October from a man enquiring about domestic helpers, and she then provided him with the contact of her friend offering the services.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the man maintained contact with the victim and introduced her to an online gambling investment called 'Casino Marina Bay', promising lucrative returns within a short period based on the invested capital. Attracted by the prospects, the woman made her first investment and received a profit of RM3,000. Encouraged by this initial success, from November 26 to December 8 last year, she made 20 subsequent money transfers to eight bank accounts associated with different companies, totaling RM759,950.

Azizee further explained that the victim realized she had been scammed when the promised profits were not delivered and she was instead asked to make additional payments, allegedly to facilitate the withdrawal of her earnings. The case is currently being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
