Gua musang: The stretch at Kilometre 35 of the Gua Musang-Jeli Road, which collapsed last year due to land subsidence, has now been fully reconstructed at a cost of RM4.1 million, said Kelantan Public Works Department (JKR) director Nik Badlihisham Nik Ismail. He stated that maintenance and repair work on the collapsed section, caused by a damaged culvert, began on February 9 and was completed on September 25.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nenggiri Assemblyman Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani highlighted that the road stretch was rebuilt with enhanced drainage and safety systems. The new culverts, replacing the damaged ones that were over 30 years old, now feature a more systematic drainage and water flow system. He expressed gratitude to the Public Works Department for completing the new road.
Motorist Mohammad Hazerel Ashraf Hazelan, 32, expressed satisfaction with the newly constructed road, which serves as the main route for villagers traveling to Gua Musang and Jeli. He noted the importance of the road's safety features, such as barriers and reflectors, especially during the monsoon season.
Resident Azmi Ariffin, 47, from Kampung Jerek Tengah, recalled that road users had to rely on a temporary unpaved red-soil road for nearly 10 months to travel to Jeli, Tanah Merah, and Rantau Panjang. He emphasized the necessity of the road for residents of Kampung Jerek, Kampung Meranto, Kampung Dalam Lah, and Kampung Atas Bukit, and expressed gratitude to JKR and all involved parties for expediting its construction.
Previously, the closure of Jalan Gua Musang-Jeli affected over 3,000 residents of eight villages in the Jerek subdistrict. These residents had to use an alternative route, Jalan Jelawang-Sungai Sam, to reach Gua Musang, which was longer and more time-consuming than the usual path.
