RM14 Million Drug Haul: Couple Among Five Nabbed in Major Kuala Lumpur Bust

Bukit aman: Police arrested five individuals, including a married couple, on suspicion of being involved in drug trafficking activities during separate raids around Gombak and Wangsa Maju on Monday and Tuesday.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the couple was apprehended in a terrace house around Batu Caves, Selangor. Police discovered 197 plastic packets believed to be filled with 200 kilograms of ketamine and 121 plastic bags of methamphetamine weighing 125 kilograms, with the total amount valued at an estimated RM14 million.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan stated that following the couple's arrest, police subsequently detained three men at the parking area of a condominium around Wangsa Maju, Kuala Lumpur. "Preliminary investigation found that the man arrested in Batu Caves, Selangor, acted as the storekeeper while the woman involved is his wife; another man acted as the coordinator; while two other men arrested were accomplices of the syndicate," he told a media conference.

Hussein further revealed that the syndicate, active since early this year, sourced its drug supply from a neighboring country and utilized houses in the Klang Valley as storage before distributing them to local markets. He noted that the drugs are believed to have been brought in through land routes, and investigations are ongoing to determine whether the substances were transported via main roads or 'rat lanes'. "They are believed to have distributed drugs to syndicates around the Klang Valley," he added.

In the course of the raids, police also seized six different types of vehicles and jewelry valued at an estimated RM300,000. "All those arrested tested negative for drugs and had no prior criminal records. They have been remanded for seven days until Oct 20," Hussein stated.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988.
