RM30 Million Sports Grant to Enhance Kelantan’s SUKMA 2028 Preparations

Kelantan:The RM30 million allocation under the Sports Matching Grant, announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the tabling of Budget 2027, is seen as a potential boost to Kelantan's sports development ahead of the 2028 Malaysia Games (SUKMA).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Kelantan Youth, Sports, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), and Community Unity Committee chairman Zamakhshari Muhamad emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach to strengthen the sports ecosystem. This approach includes grassroots talent development and high-performance sports.

The allocation is expected to create more opportunities for sports associations and clubs to conduct programs that increase youth participation, identify new talent, and promote sustained sports development. Zamakhshari welcomed the federal government's announcement and encouraged sports bodies in Kelantan to utilize the grant according to the guidelines set by the Youth and Sports Ministry.

He also highlighted that sports development success should not only be measured by the number of competitions but also by public participation, new talent emergence, and the overall benefits to the community.

In addition to the Sports Matching Grant, Anwar announced RM240 million for preparations to host the 2027 SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games. The government has also allocated RM460 million for national sports development, which includes strengthening high-performance sports programs, supporting para-athletes and deaf athletes, and maintaining sports facilities nationwide.
