RM8 Billion TVET Allocation to Propel Aviation and Automotive Sectors

Accra:The RM8 billion allocation under Budget 2027 for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is set to significantly advance Malaysia's aviation and automotive industries.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Amran Mohd Tomin, group chief people officer at Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), emphasized that the targeted allocations across various ministries are crucial for developing a future-focused workforce in the aviation sector. Key government initiatives include a RM500 million allocation for the Skills Development Fund Corporation (PTPK) and a RM3 billion fund through HRD Corp, aimed at enhancing upskilling and reskilling programs.

Amran highlighted the RM150 million allocation for the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (MITRA), which offers opportunities for Indian youth in aviation. This focus on specialization is vital for aligning TVET progress with industry needs. MAG, through its MAB Academy, provides two main aircraft maintenance training programs for eligible SPM graduates, which directly feed into high-demand positions in aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul, with qualifications recognized globally.

Mohd Rizal Jailan, CEO of Naza Group Automotive Division, noted that TVET allocations empower the growing local automotive ecosystem, which extends beyond original equipment manufacturers to include a robust supply chain. He pointed out the increasing role of artificial intelligence and new technologies in vehicles, stressing the importance of equipping graduates with basic skills for specialized training in different car brands.

Both Amran and Mohd Rizal stressed the importance of ongoing dialogue between industry players and TVET practitioners to maintain relevance and encouraged financial institutions to support high-level skills training investments.
