Rough Seas Claim Angler’s Life at Labuan Beach

Labuan: A fishing trip turned tragic late Wednesday night when one man died and two others were found unconscious after being hit by strong waves at Pohon Batu Beach here. The incident occurred at about 11.10 pm when the trio-identified as Zain Iden, 50, Isa Iden, and Untung Jurung, both 53-were believed to have been fishing near the shore during rough sea conditions.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Labuan Fire and Rescue Department director Abdul Rahman Ali said a distress call was received at 11.11 pm, and a rescue team from the Layangan Fire Station, located about 3.5 kilometers away, was immediately dispatched to the scene. Abdul Rahman reported that upon arrival, their operations team found two victims unconscious, while another was weak but responsive.

Medical personnel at the scene confirmed Zain Iden's death, while the other two men were taken to Labuan Hospital and are reported to be in stable condition. Abdul Rahman urged the public to avoid fishing or engaging in coastal activities during strong winds and rough sea conditions, especially at night.
