RTG Committee Ready To Reconsider Entry Of Azizulhasni Into Elite Programme

Kuala lumpur: The Road To Gold (RTG) committee is considering including national track cycling legend Datuk Muhammad Azizulhasni Awang in the elite programme. The committee, which oversees the inclusion of athletes into the prestigious programme, requires candidates to meet specific criteria, including being ranked among the top eight in the world.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Road To Gold coordinator Datuk Stuart Ramalingam emphasized the committee's openness to welcoming Azizulhasni back into the programme, provided he meets the set criteria. Ramalingam noted that Azizulhasni, affectionately known as The Pocket Rocketman, has shown significant improvement in performance over time. However, he reiterated that automatic acceptance into the RTG programme necessitates a top-eight world ranking.

For the record, Azizulhasni is currently ranked 23rd globally, following his success in securing two gold medals in the keirin event at the recent World Cup Track Series. Additionally, he demonstrated his prowess by clinching a bronze medal in the individual sprint event at the World Cup Track Series held in Nilai and Perth, Australia.
