Johor bahru: Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) is prepared to host a live broadcast for an interactive dialogue, provided Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi agrees to debate Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Dr Maszlee Malik for the Puteri Wangsa state seat. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil suggested that the dialogue could occur at any mutually agreed location, including Johor Bahru, with discussions centered on Johor's development agenda and future.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the PH Communications Director emphasized the platform is not designed for political sparring or partisan debate but rather to facilitate the exchange of ideas on the state's development. Fahmi expressed willingness to provide a platform on RTM TV1 for Dr Maszlee and Datuk Onn Hafiz to engage in dialogue, stressing the importance of discussing issues respectfully. He mentioned ongoing discussions about naming a Menteri Besar candidate before confirming any debate or dialogue.
Fahmi highlighted the significance of leaders being open to differing views and criticism for Johor's future progress. He praised Maszlee's openness in holding discussions with 41 youths about the state's future aspirations. Addressing the upcoming polling day for the 16th Johor state election, Fahmi urged young voters to overcome any logistical challenges and participate in shaping Johor's development direction over the next five years.
In the race for Puteri Wangsa, Maszlee will compete against Barisan Nasional's (BN) Teow Chia Ling, Nicholas Paul Vincent from Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama), Rashifa Aljunied of the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (MUDA), and independent candidate Wang Wee Seong. Meanwhile, Machap incumbent Onn Hafiz (BN) faces PH's Nor Hafiz Roslan in a direct contest. The Johor state election polling day is scheduled for July 11, with early voting on July 7.
