Azam Baki Retains Position on NFCC Advisory Board

Kuala lumpur: The National Anti-Financial Crime Centre (NFCC) clarified today that Tan Sri Azam Baki, former chief commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), remains a member of its Advisory Board.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, NFCC director-general Datuk Seri Shamshun Baharin Mohd Jamil stated that Azam Baki's appointment to the board is for a three-year term, starting from September 20, 2024, to September 19, 2027. The appointment was made in his personal capacity and received the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Datuk Seri Shamshun emphasized that Azam's membership on the NFCC Advisory Board is independent of his role as the MACC chief commissioner. His position remains valid until the end of his term unless otherwise terminated by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong. Azam's participation in the NFCC Advisory Board meeting on June 30 was in full compliance with Act 822, also known as the NFCC Act 2019, confirming his legal standing as a board member.

The clarification comes after media reports highlighted concerns from Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin regarding Azam Baki's appointment to the advisory board.
