Kuala lumpur: A Sarawak complex will be built in Kuala Lumpur next year to facilitate accommodation and meetings for students from the Land of the Hornbills (Sarawak), said Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. Abang Johari stated that the complex will be equipped with facilities such as a hostel and infrastructure to accommodate students from Sarawak, enabling them to meet and hold discussions.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Abang Johari mentioned that the land for the complex is ready for development. He expressed hope that the Sarawak Complex will provide benefits and convenience to the people of Sarawak once completed. The announcement was made during his address at the Dinner Ceremony in conjunction with the Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak 2025 program held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC).
The event was attended by prominent figures, including the Governor of Sarawak Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, and Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, who is also the Chairman of Lan Berambeh this year, along with Sarawak elected representatives and approximately 6,000 people of Sarawak descent.
In addition to the complex, Abang Johari announced plans by the state government to provide free tertiary education for students studying at institutions of higher learning in Sarawak. This initiative aims to ease the financial burden on families, particularly those in the B40 group, fishermen, and farmers, by providing their children with opportunities for higher education.
