Kuala lumpur: Sarawak aims to become the largest green energy producer, targeting to generate 10,000 megawatts (MW) of renewable and green energy by 2030, said Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. He highlighted Sarawak's energy strengths, including the Bakun Dam, initially producing 2,200 MW and now increasing to 2,500 MW due to continuous innovation.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Abang Johari stated that Sarawak will continue to explore new renewable methods. The state plans to leverage its potential for solar energy and develop new liquid biomass as an alternative to coal.
He elaborated on other renewable strategies, mentioning the use of low carbon gas, methane, and hydrogen. 'By 2035, we will increase it to 15,000 MW,' he noted before a town hall session titled Sarawak Agenda at Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak (LBAS) 2025.
Abang Johari emphasized energy's crucial role in economic activities, stating that progress and development rely heavily on energy availability. He stressed the importance of reasonable and affordable energy production costs, which help attract investments and create job opportunities.
