Sarawak Premier Poised to Announce Legislative Assembly Dissolution

Kuala Lumpur:Sarawak Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to announce the dissolution of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly this afternoon, setting the stage for a state election.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, a special press conference has been scheduled for 3.30 pm at the Satria Pertiwi Complex, as informed by a media invitation from the Premier's Office.

Speculation regarding the dissolution has grown in recent days, with the assembly's final sitting of the current term taking place last Wednesday, during which the Sarawak Budget 2027 was approved. The current term of the 82-seat assembly is set to expire in February 2027.

In the last state election on December 18, 2021, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), led by Abang Johari, achieved a landslide victory by winning 76 out of the 82 seats contested. Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) won four seats, while the Democratic Action Party (DAP) secured two seats.
