Schools in Malaysia to Reopen Despite Haze Concerns

Kuala Lumpur:Educational institutions under the Ministry of Education in Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, and Putrajaya, along with some areas in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, will reopen tomorrow.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory Education Department announced that schools in the Sentul and Keramat districts will resume normal operations after a decrease in Air Pollutant Index (API) readings for three consecutive days. The most recent API reading at Batu Muda station was at a moderate level of 84, leading to the termination of Home-Based Teaching and Learning (PdPR) and the Work From Home (WFH) directive in these areas.

However, in Kuala Lumpur, schools under the Bangsar/Pudu district will remain closed due to unhealthy air quality, with an API reading of 152 at the Cheras station. To ensure continuity, PdPR and the WFH directive for teachers and Implementing Group Staff will continue in these areas.

In Selangor, the Education Department stated that schools in Hulu Langat, Gombak, and Petaling Perdana districts will remain closed based on current API readings. Schools in other districts will operate as usual, and updates will be provided through official channels.

Melaka's schools will resume operations as air quality remains moderate, with API readings below 100 at various locations. Negeri Sembilan will also see schools reopening, advising students with respiratory issues to wear masks.

In Pahang, schools will open, with the haze situation under continuous monitoring. In Putrajaya, schools will operate as API readings have consistently declined, with a current reading of 70.
