SEA Games: Muhammad Sharul Aimy and Yeap Kang Xian Win Gold in Artistic Gymnastics

Pathum thani: Three-time South East Asian (SEA) Games bronze medalist Muhammad Sharul Aimy Kamaru Hisam could hardly find the words to express his delight in finally winning his first-ever gold medal in Pathum Thani today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Muhammad Sharul Aimy clinched the gold in the men's vault with 13.833 points in the final at Gymnasium 5, Universiti Thammasat Kampus Rangsit. He was inspired by his teammate Luqman Al Hafiz Zulfa, who secured a silver medal in the men's floor exercise the previous day, surpassing his horizontal bar accomplishment in the last SEA Games in Cambodia.

Muhammad Sharul Aimy expressed his happiness, stating, "I was really very happy when I saw other friends like Luqman swapping the colour of his medals, so I managed to swap my bronze with a gold." He hopes his victory will motivate him for the Asian Games next year and the 2026 Commonwealth Games, having been a finalist in Birmingham 2022. He triumphed over John Ivan Cruz, who took silver with 13.817 points, and bronze medalist Tikumporn Surintornta, who scored 13.717 points.

In another event, Yeap Kang Xian was overjoyed after winning the gold in the women's balance beam with 13 points. She outperformed Singaporean Amanda Yap, who scored 12.733 points, and Aleah Finnegan of the Philippines, who earned 12.467 points. Yeap expressed her gratitude, saying, "I am really happy. Thank you, National Sports Council and the National Sports Institute for helping and supporting me all this while."

The national gymnastics team concluded their SEA Games campaign with a total of three gold medals, one silver, and two bronze medals.
