Sarawak: The search and rescue (SAR) operation for a teenage boy believed to have been attacked by a crocodile in Pulau Bruit, Daro, near here, seven days ago was called off today. The operation aimed to locate the 14-year-old victim, Agustine Fernando Nyalong.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Operations Control Centre of the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department initiated the seventh day of the SAR operation starting at 9 am. The search involved several security agencies and local villagers focusing on areas near the Sungai Kelai jetty, Rumah Panjang Jingga, where the incident was believed to have occurred, extending up to the vicinity of Kampung Sebako.
Despite setting traps, no crocodiles were captured. The search efforts faced challenges due to heavy rain and rough river conditions, which hindered progress. After discussions and mutual agreement among all agencies, the victim's family, and villagers, the SAR operation was officially terminated at 4.10 pm.
The missing boy, a Form Two student of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Semop, was reported missing last Friday. His friends, who witnessed the incident, immediately informed the villagers about the attack.
