Selangor Plans Rail Industry Hub in Hulu Selangor

Selangor: The Selangor government has announced plans to establish a Rail Industry Hub in Hulu Selangor, focusing on the manufacturing of train components and maintenance. This initiative, as stated by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, is aimed at reducing the state's dependency on foreign technology, with a particular emphasis on the Klang Valley's rail industry concentration.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the proposed development will involve collaboration with industry players, academia, and experienced rail operators. Notably, companies in Selangor, such as SMH Rail, have already begun manufacturing locomotives for the MRT network and for export purposes. This announcement was made during the presentation of the 2026 Selangor Budget at the State Legislative Assembly sitting.

In addition to the Rail Industry Hub, Amirudin outlined plans to develop the Automotive Valley in Serendah and Lembah Beringin. This area will focus on conventional vehicles powered by petrol, diesel, hybrid, and electric energy. The decision to develop this location follows Chery's RM2.2 billion investment in the Chery Smart Auto Industrial Park in Lembah Beringin, which aims to produce up to 300,000 vehicles annually for both domestic use and export.

Amirudin emphasized the strategic location of the area, which is in proximity to the main plants of domestic carmakers Proton and Perodua, as well as international companies like Nissan. The Selangor state government, through Invest Selangor, plans to implement policies to develop the entire supply chain, further reinforcing the region's automotive industry capabilities.
