Kuala Lumpur: Sensodyne, Malaysia's leading sensitivity toothpaste brand, has re-launched its Fresh Mint variant with a new and improved formula. This initiative aims to provide long-lasting relief and encourage Malaysians to live free from the worry of tooth sensitivity, encapsulated in their campaign slogan, 'Why Tahan?'.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Haleon, a global leader in consumer health, disclosed that a recent survey conducted by the company highlights a significant oral health issue in Malaysia. The survey revealed that 69 percent of respondents experience regular tooth sensitivity, but 61.8 percent of them continue to endure the discomfort without seeking treatment.
The survey, involving 248 Malaysians, indicated that younger individuals are particularly affected, with most participants aged between 18 to 40. Specifically, 38.4 percent of respondents were aged 26 to 40, while 34.6 percent were aged 18 to 25, highlighting the need for increased awareness and effective solutions for sensitive teeth across age groups.
Sensitivity triggered by cold foods (58.5 percent), sweets, and hot drinks is disrupting daily enjoyment. Alarmingly, only 13.1 percent of those affected use brushing as a relief strategy, pointing to a clear gap in awareness, the report stated.
Haleon emphasized that the newly launched Sensodyne Fresh Mint offers '24-hour protection relief from sensitivity with continued, twice-daily use; lasting freshness with an enhanced mint formula; and triple-action cleaning to polish teeth, remove stains, and brush away bacteria.'
The effectiveness of Sensodyne is further substantiated by a Real-World Evidence study published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health (IJERPH). The study found that 100 percent of daily users reported satisfaction, and 98 percent noticed improvements in sensitivity.
Law Chen, Marketing Lead for Haleon Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei, stated that Sensodyne, in collaboration with the Malaysian Dental Association (MDA), is intensifying efforts to raise awareness and promote early intervention. Sensitivity, if left untreated, can lead to more serious dental issues.
'Too many Malaysians endure the discomfort of tooth sensitivity, missing out on simple joys like a refreshing iced coffee or a scoop of ice cream. Instead of addressing the root cause, many wait for the pain to pass. These findings underscore the urgent need for effective solutions and greater awareness around sensitivity,' he said.
MDA periodontist Dr. Mohd Salman Masri emphasized that tooth sensitivity is more than just a minor inconvenience. 'That's why it's crucial to address sensitivity early - right when you first feel it. Ignoring it could lead to bigger problems down the line,' he stated.
In celebration of World Oral Health Day, Sensodyne is also running the 'A Happy Mouth is. A Happy Mind' nationwide campaign. This initiative offers free dental check-ups at over 500 clinics nationwide from April 21 to May 21, 2025, in partnership with the MDA.
