Shamsul Iskandar, Albert Tei On Remand For Six Days

Putrajaya: Former Senior Political Secretary to the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, and businessman Albert Tei Jiann Cheing are on remand until November 4. The remand order, lasting six days, was issued by Magistrate Fatin Muneerah Sofian following a request by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the remand was confirmed by lawyers Yusmadi Yusoff and Mahajoth Singh, who are representing Shamsul Iskandar and Tei, respectively. Both lawyers verified that their clients were detained to aid investigations under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009.

Shamsul Iskandar, Tei, and Sofia Rini Buyong were apprehended by the MACC in connection with an alleged corruption case. The case involves Tei, who is suspected of offering bribes to Shamsul Iskandar to reclaim funds purportedly distributed to Sabah assemblymen. Shamsul Iskandar and Sofia Rini were taken into custody at the MACC Headquarters after providing their statements, while Tei was arrested at his residence in Puchong.

Commenting on Shamsul Iskandar's remand, Yusmadi highlighted that the court considered his client's health conditions, including diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease, when deciding the remand duration. "We have submitted all medical reports from the National Heart Institute (IJN), and we hope the investigation can be completed quickly," he told reporters at the Palace of Justice.
